Getting Ready

Champagne.
Laughter.
Makeup tips and shared confidences among girlfriends and new family.
Complete and utter relief that my dress still fit.
And the moment it all hit.

  1. A. You are so pretty.
    B. Kelly is an amazing photographer.
    C. The one where you've got concentration face while you dress is closed up is awesome, and the juxtaposition with the one of you laughing KILLS me.

  3. Your photos are stunning, as are you. I've love reading your posts for months now and have found them to be so moving, thought provoking and sometimes hit waaay to close to home.

But today I have a really shallow request: can I get your makeup artist's name? Your wedding makeup is perfection.

  6. Aw guys... you're making me blush. So thank you. But I also have to say that I've never been more beautiful than on my wedding day. Yes, the hair, makeup, photography, and my selective photo sharing all help with the impression but, I'm pretty normal looking. (don't shush me. it's true. I've seen myself in other professional non-wedding photos with well-done makeup too.) There's really something on the wedding day that makes you glow from the inside out.

@hotchdied - the whole day was full of crazy facial contortion juxtapositions and emotional swings (of the good sort.) I was so lucky to have Kelly there to capture it.

@birdroughsit - You nailed it - it's the story Kelly captured that slays me. She did it throughout the entire day, and I'm still savoring the memories.

@Bri - my long-time hairstylist did my hair and makeup. She's on my sidebar - Mandy Meyers at Pacheco Salon in Santa Monica. She doesn't generally do onsite bridal, but did me a favor because I'm a long-time client (which made the morning even more special, having her around) and I think she does in-salon appointments. But it's worth asking! She's on her own honeymoon now, so I'd give it a week!

  7. Holy crap, Becca. When you said your photos weren't blog worthy, you LIED. LIED, I tell you.

  8. LOL. I'm with Sarah!

Absolutely stunning. Love the emotions Kelly captured in your expressions. Feel like I can almost hear the laughter in the room, in that one photo.

(and yeah - as much I railed against the idea of "never being as beautiful" as on your wedding day... it was true in my case. Even in the cheap-o camera shots, I've never looked that glow-y, and it wasn't the make-up).

  9. @Sarah - it depends which blog :) These photos are perfect for, um, my blog. Or sites like APW that focus on the emotions and meaning behind a wedding. But for some strange reason (ha), my photos of store-bought papel picado wouldn't make the blogworthy cut at SMP/Green Wedding Shoes/100LC etc. And I couldn't care less, because the emotion-story photos are the point. Not the photos of my placecards.

  11. So gorgeous on their own, but in series they are a million times better. And the little bit of the dress I can see looks AMAZING!

  12. Girl, you looked GORGEOUS! I loved the picture of you praying "please let it zip, please let it zip, please let it zip....." and of course the next happy, happy face one.

    I'm thrilled for you. Thrilled!!!

  13. In the seventh picture, you look like a ballerina trying to center herself before going on stage.

Great style. I love that the makeup artist emphasized your eyes, kept the lips natural, and didn't go crazy with blush

  15. Oh my. That 4th pic = simply stunning. The 9th picture made me cry. That emotion was just a zinger, straight to my heart of understanding.

And f*ck SMP, they wouldn't know beautiful if it smacked them upside the head. Because this, THIS, Becca - is beautiful.

  18. You look just like my adorable Irish sister-in-law, who I adore. Which makes me adore you even more.

Things I also adore: your face when your dress is being done up. The photos of your face when your dress is being done up.

I can't wait to see more. xx

    And you're just lovely.

I want these moments. This is a very good reason to have a getting-ready time.
